Summer Creative Response Project

For my summer creative response project to our book I painted and I normally don't paint. I usually choose not to paint because I don't think I'm any good at it but I had this image in my head for a response project and I just had to give it a try. There was a scene in the book that really stuck with me, and that was the moment that a white police officer pulled over a a black woman and she explained the thoughts going through her head. I wanted to paint this scene of the cop looking into the car at a very scarred looking woman. I ended up sketching out the painting first on the canvas and then painting over it. I made the background look like the reflections of the police car lights. Ultimately, it turned out way better than I was expecting. This connects to learning outcome 2 because I took on the challenge of trying to paint and learned how to help develop my skills in that.
