IM COACHING

Recently I got some really exciting news. I have been asking the owners of my cheer gym to let me coach a show team and they finally said that I could be head coach for our show team this upcoming season. I was nervous going into their first practice today because I knew everyones eyes were going to be on me being the youngest coach in the gym with little experience. Only two kids are signed up so far so I had an hour and a half two coach two four year olds some basic cheerleading. I found myself completely lost trying to figure out how I was going to fill the time and what skills to teach. Then I realized, I was once a young kid like them learning to cheer and I still remember many of those practices so just do what I was taught. We spent the rest of practice learning fun cheers and motions. The kids seemed to be having a blast and I was so excited to talk to their parents after practice. They seemed very impressed with the skills the girls were doing and were excited for the next week. I think learning outcome 1 applies to this experience because I was able to identify my strengths of being a very experienced cheerleader and turn that into growth as a coach.
